When you go to a new place that you have only seen on a map, the scenery is often very different from what you had imagined in your mind. The feeling of discomfort fades away like a dream just after waking up, and only the real landscape is left behind. Drawing a town based on real buildings, signs, and motifs unique to the area may be similar to the act of bringing the town you envisioned on a map into reality. I hope that the overlap of elements formed by distorting the real landscape will stimulate the landscape of someone else’s memory buried in the past.

地図でしか見たことのない初めての土地へ向かうと、頭の中で想像していた風景と随分違うことが多い。その違和感は目覚めて直ぐの夢の様に消えてしまい、後には現実の風景だけが取り残される。実在の建物や看板、土地固有のモチーフを元に街を描くことは、地図上で思い描いた街の姿を現実へと手繰り寄せる行為に近いのかもしれない。そして現実の景色を歪ませながら形作られた諸要素の重なりが、また他の誰かの過去に埋もれた記憶の風景を刺激するものであってほしいと思う。
